美術館と市場
十五世紀の初期ルネサンスを代表する、芸術家ロレンツォ・ギベルディの代表作として名高いフィレンツェのサン・ジョバンニ洗礼堂の東側扉門「天国の門」、をシアトル美術館まで見に行きました。（いいリンクが見つかりません。）（続きを読むへ）
美術館の後は、せっかくダウンタウンにいるので、Pike Place Maket まで、歩いて行きました。市場には、野菜や果物だけでなく、春の花を所狭しと売っています。
喫茶ギャラリーのために、もっと真剣に写真を撮って来るべきでしたが、雑踏の中で主人と子供２人（娘と友だち）を見失わないようにしているうちに、忘れてしまいました。
旧約聖書を題材にした10のレリーフで構成される巨大な扉門の原寸の写真と、本物のレリーフ３個が展示されていました。創るのに２７年もかかったそうです。
１月２６日〜４月６日の間の公開なのに、もちろんわたしたちは４月５日に行くので、すごい混雑でした。
これは、巨匠の珠玉の名作といわれていて、かなり重要なものらしいのです。これが海外で展示されるのは最後という事で、娘は見るチャンスがあるかも知れませんが、親はこれが最後です。

SAM Third Floor Galleries
Three stunning panels from Lorenzo Ghiberti?s Gates of Paradise, one of the most celebrated works of the Italian Renaissance, will be on view at SAM Downtown. This exhibition marks the first time that the gilded bronze panels have traveled to the United States since their creation over 550 years ago. Generations of admirers have praised the monumental doors of the Florence baptistery for their compelling portrayal of scenes from the Old Testament and their innovative treatment of architectural space.
The Gates of Paradise exhibition will present the three panels within the context of their 25 years of restoration, nearly as long as it took Ghiberti to create the work. After five centuries of use, exposure to weather and pollution, and human contact, the doors were manifesting the ravages of time?their surfaces corroded and gilt finish dulled. During the restoration, researchers made major new discoveries about the history and consummate craftsmanship of the doors, ultimately revealing the lustrous gold surface that had been obscured over time. The exhibition will give insight into Ghiberti?s work and his development as an artist.
SAM is privileged to provide our community this rare viewing opportunity. After they tour four cities in the United States, including Seattle, the panels will return to Florence to be reassembled within the original doors and kept in an oxygen-free environment at the Museo dell?Opera del Duomo, never to leave Florence again.
